Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and organised Midwife to join our team to lead on the recruitment and retention of midwifery staff within our services. Working in collaboration with the senior team you will lead on developing initiatives to attract and retain staff through engagement and recruitment campaigns. This is a new and exciting role and you will be responsible for leading open days and providing professional advice and guidance on registration and training.

The role is 18.75 hours, however applicants who wish to work more hours are encouraged to increase this with clinical shifts in Midwifery service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for organising recruitment campaigns and leading on retention of staff.

The post holder will be the first point of contact for applicants applying to Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust and will be representing the Trust, therefore excellent people skills are essential. The role frequently involves multi-disciplinary networking, thus exceptional communication, professionalism and organisational skills are vital.

The post holder will need to be highly motivated and able to work well under their own initiative. Being methodical is a fundamental skill for this post, as well as being able to work to strict deadlines.

Develop a programme of generational mentoring including retire and return midwives to support and mentor new recruits into the profession.Provide first line support and advice for midwifery recruitment issues/contact and concerns for new recruits ensuring a smooth on-boarding process

Ensure new recruits have a detailed programme of induction to the midwifery service with a named mentor to support them during this period.

Allocate appropriate Preceptors (if newly qualified)

You will need to have excellent communication & IT skills

Job description

Job responsibilities

- Lead, implement and evaluate the midwifery recruitment and retention improvement plan for the service

- Lead recruitment initiatives for midwifery roles linking with workforce initiatives both internally and externally to the Trust as appropriate

- Plan & organise recruitment events and monitor and track their effectiveness

- Work collaboratively with the Trust Lead for Nursing on recruitment and retention to maximise opportunities available to attract external applicants

- Plan & coordinate open days and other forms of proactive recruitment activity including taking a lead role in the shortlisting of applicants and securing timely, professional engagement from the wider midwifery workforce in selection and interviewing applicants.

- Work closely with Practice Development Midwives to develop an in depth understanding and knowledge of tools, techniques and methodologies for the assessment of clinical skills

- Develop career clinics and provide coaching for midwives to develop a bespoke package of support depending on the individuals strengths and career aspirations. Agree development needs that support the delivery of care, as well as driving staff career development and retention within the service.

- Develop internal development days to support interview preparation; CV writing and career progression

- Provide support to internationally educated midwives to develop writing skills and interview preparation; develop an overseas buddy system to support midwives in their career at the Trust
