The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Project Manager

The closing date is 28 April 2026

Job summary

Are you an experienced NHS Digital Project Manager seeking to shape the future of healthcare?

Our portfolio spans AI and Automation, Cloud First strategy, a region-wide LIMS rollout, and support for our Networks of Excellence.

As outlined in the NHS 10-Year Plan and Life Sciences Sector Plan, Genomic Medicine is a key priority for moving healthcare from treatment to prevention. Digital, Data and Informatics are vital to enabling this transformation.

In the North East and Yorkshire (NEY), we lead nationally in research and innovation in this space. These roles offer the chance to join a forward-thinking service driving change.

We are recruiting a Digital Project Manager to strengthen our senior Digital, Data and Informatics delivery team. This is a 18-month fixed-term post, supporting future service delivery and strategic priorities.

The NEY Genomic Medicine Service (GMS) is one of seven regional services providing diagnostic, prognostic and treatment insights, delivering equitable, patient-centred care to around 8.5 million people.

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of four partner trusts in the NEY GMS, alongside Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Working with NHS and regional clinical partners, we embed genomics into routine care enabling faster, more accurate diagnoses, personalised treatments, and prevention through early detection.

Main duties of the job

Dimension 1: Drive forward our existing Genomic Laboratory Information Management System (GLIMs) implementation. This will provide a single solution across our entire region which will bring considerable benefits for our Clinical, Scientific and Operational teams to enhance our digital maturity and operations, resulting in improved experience for the population we serve and the staff who provide the service.

Dimension 2 : Drive forward the delivery of our digital roadmap which is a combination of the NHSE commissioned national programme, including Digitisation of the Test Directory, Order Management and the Unified Genomics Record, and Regional Initiatives including Cloud First Strategy, Networks of Excellence and AI and Automation.

As a regional service, this will require travel within NEY but there is an opportunity for hybrid working for a suitable candidate.

About us

As a flexible working friendly organisation, we want to be sure that you can work in a way that is best for us and for our patients, and for you. Speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate a flexible working arrangement. If it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.

With around 2 million contacts with patients every year, we deliver care from:

  • Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI)
  • Freeman Hospital
  • Newcastle Dental Hospital
  • Cramlington Manor Walks
  • Urgent treatment centres
  • Newcastle Fertility Centre
  • Northern Centre for Cancer Care, North Cumbria
  • Northern Genetics Service

These include a range of flagship services which deliver cutting-edge care (supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic services in both radiology and pathology) and are a catalyst for innovation to support pioneering clinical practice in the NHS.

We also have offices at Regent Point in Gosforth and community sites.

Please see attached information on what Staff Benefits we have to offer at our Trust under 'Documents to download' or 'Supporting documents'.
