Job summary
We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and ambitious individual to join our well-established, fully integrated team as a Consultant Oculoplastic Surgeon, with a special interest in lacrimal and paediatric oculoplastics. You would join a team of 5 oculoplastic surgeons who provide a wide variety of oculpastic work. The aim of the post is to maintain and expand capacity and further develop subspeciality services.
This role offers a varied and rewarding clinical workload within a supportive department. In addition to the clinical responsibilities, there are excellent opportunities to contribute to teaching, education, research, and audit, in line with the Trust's commitment to professional development and service improvement.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a consultant-led, effective and comprehensive oculoplastic service as part of the established oculoplastic team. The post holder will work in accordance with the terms and conditions of the national Consultant contract, contributing to high-quality patient care and service development.
There is a 1:18 on call commitment

To provide clinical expertise in line with agreed job plan. This will include specialist oculoplastic work in clinic and theatre. You will be responsible for the patients under your care which includes those being seen by your team. The post will include working with the whole team and the wider department and being available for internal as well as external referrals. The post may involve a more general session such as a cataract clinic, theatre or eye emergency department session. There might be a need to cover other sessions on an ad hoc basis depending on the needs of the department. The post will include being involved in the ophthalmology consultant on call rota for emergencies, this includes being overall responsible for the patients coming through the eye emergency department on that day. You would also triage general referrals on that day. There is a requirement to keep up to date with ophthalmic practice.
