An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to lead our busy and dynamic Echocardiography Team at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Our internationally renowned Cardiothoracic Directorate provides secondary and tertiary Cardiac and transplantation services to the North of England and beyond. The successful applicant will therefore be working at the cutting edge of Echocardiography which a department which has a strong emphasis on individual professional development.

The department is split over two sites and successful applicants will be expected to rotate between sites. The department is BSE accredited and we currently offer a physiologist led valve clinic and are developing a physiologist led bubble/contrast service.
Applicants must have relevant transthoracic Echocardiography experience and be British Society of Echocardiography Accredited with the ability to work independently in the performance and reporting of transthoracic Echocardiograms.

Job responsibilities
- To lead and coordinate the Echocardiography service
- To provide and develop a high quality ultrasound service to the Regional Cardiothoracic Centre in order to treat patients on both a regional and supra-regional basis.
- To specialise in displaying, interpreting and reporting independently detailed transthoracic ultrasound scans (Echocardiograms) on a day-to-day basis, essential in the diagnosis and prognosis of patients across a wide range of services. To develop the regional Stress echo service and transoesophageal service.
- To train a wide variety of staff groups in the specialist techniques of diagnostic Cardiac ultrasound.
- To be flexible in working within other area when service needs demand
- To assist with rota management of staff working in this area across sites including electronic roster database management
- To manage appraisals of staff working in the department.
- To assist the Professional Lead Cardiac Physiologist in business cases and running of overall service.

Essential
- MSc in Clinical Physiology, HNC / Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement or equivalent experience
- British Society of Echocardiography examination (BSE)
- Appropriate resuscitation certificate
- RCCP state registration [Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists]/ AHCS registration (Academy of Health Care Scientists) or equivalent.
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience at a Senior Clinical Physiologist level including extensive training and experience within area of speciality (Masters level equivalent).
- Evidence of participation in practice development in order to maintain BSE accreditation and knowledge in other essential areas of requirement
- Significant experience in supervisory and training role.
- Previous experience in budget and stock control management

- Recent clinical experience within area of speciality.
