Job summary
We are looking for a band 4 SACT Scheduler to join our SACT scheduling team on a 8 month fixed term/secondment basis to cover maternity leave.
The role will be an office based admin position dealing with telephone queries from patients undergoing cancer treatment, scheduling in appointments for systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT) and be part of the wider MDT involved in the patient pathway. The role is fast paced, requiring strict attention to detail and ability to multi task.
The ideal candidate should have excellent computing skills, communication skills and able to liaise with patients. An understanding of cancer waiting times or experience in working in a cancer related role is highly advantageous.
The post is 37.5 hours per week with the core hours being 08:00-18:00 Monday-Friday. Shift pattern is x3 08:00-18:00 and x1 08:00-17:30 per week or can be 08:00-16:00 over Monday-Friday.

Main duties of the job
- NCCC is a large clinical board with patients being treated in a number of locations. The main duties of the role will include:
- Receiving referrals for cancer treatment
- Booking patients in for pre assessment clinics
- Booking patients in for SACT treatments
- Managing deferrals of patient appointment
- Managing a busy email inbox and responding to queries in a timely manner
- Answering telephone queries and communicating with patients/relatives.
- Liaising with nursing and medical staff
There may be some involvement in bed allocation of emergency or elective patients however the primary role is to manage the scheduling aspect of the SACT scheduler role.

- Receives SACT referrals and schedules patients for elective inpatient admission or day case treatments and procedures
- Coordination of elective inpatient admissions for the Northern Centre for Cancer Care, (NCCC) and Specialist Haematology (SH)
- Act a principle contact with patients, health care professionals and other organisations to ensure an efficient, effective and value for money service is in place, maintained and developed
- Liaises with patients, healthcare professionals and other agencies regarding appointments for chemotherapy.
- Contributes to the delivery of a consistently high standard of patient care as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Participates in directorate meetings to support admissions and bed allocation of emergency admissions.
- Provides day to day supervision for A&C staff on the Ward 36, NCCC.
- Provides local training & induction and yearly appraisals for these staff
