Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Ward Housekeeper on the Assessment Suite at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. The Assessment Suite is a 50 bedded acute medical admissions department caring for a patients with a wide range of medical conditions.

The Ward Housekeeper plays a vital role in supporting the smooth running of the Acute Medical Admissions Unit by ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Working closely with the nursing and clinical teams, the housekeeper helps maintain high standards of hygiene, assists with non-clinical patient care tasks, and contributes to the overall efficiency of the ward.

Essential skills required:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a busy, fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of hygiene standards and infection control procedures.
  • Reliable, compassionate, and organised approach to work.

Main duties of the job

  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of patient areas, staff rooms, and communal spaces in line with infection prevention protocols.
  • Support patient comfort by ensuring bed spaces are clean, stocked, and well-organised.
  • Assist with the distribution of meals and beverages, ensuring dietary needs are met and patients receive appropriate nutrition and hydration.
  • Will contribute to effective stock control and maintenance and highlight any deficiencies to the senior qualified nurse on shift when required.
  • Liaise with domestic services, portering, and catering teams to coordinate support services.
  • Provide a friendly and reassuring presence for patients, helping with basic non-clinical needs.
  • Will plan and prioritise own and delegated work tasks and activities.
