Job summary

The successful candidate will be in a newly developed post primarily provided to further expand the ability of the service to provide sustainable & equitable consultant leadership across the week. They will work in the same pattern as, and make a significant contribution to, a well-integrated team providing quaternary neonatal care. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop areas of expertise. They will be joining the team at an exciting time where we be embarking on a significant refurbishment of the neonatal intensive care area.

Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a highly motivated neonatologist to help deliver consultant led care within the neonatal service, based at the RVI in Newcastle. This is a newly developed substantive post which will help the service meet the 24/7 demands of our patient population and also help support the recent expansion of the neonatal service.

This is a busy quaternary neonatal service. It is part of the Northern Region managed clinical network with a population base of 32,000 deliveries annually.

Clinical:

Provide consultant-led care shared with colleagues within the Newcastle Neonatal Service for the clinical areas on Ward 35, the postnatal wards and the Newcastle Birthing Centre at the RVI

Participate in the neonatal consultant on-call rota for nights and weekends (1 in 11 (Once fully recruited)

Provide advice for and coordinate and where necessary deliver transfers arising from neonatal referrals to Northern Neonatal Transport Service (NNeTS)

Provide advice for neonatal issues arising in infants in other areas of Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Participate in neonatal follow up

To undertake clinical duties in such a way that meets with Directorate and Trust aims and objectives

Undergo Continued Professional Development (CPD) in accordance with guidelines stipulated by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH)

Undertake an annual appraisal and job plan review. It is expected that objectives within job plan reviews will be based on Trust objectives such as fulfilment of fixed contractual commitments on the basis of a 42-week working year with due allowance for statutory holidays
