An exciting opportunity has arisen for a driven and enthusiastic Advanced Clinical Pharmacist to join the Pharmacy team who work closely alongside our Specialist Neurology service (within Surgical and Specialist Services Board) at Newcastle upon Tyne hospitals. The role will be based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
We are looking for an innovative individual to establish a new service to our Neurology Speciality, focussing on Multiple Sclerosis Specialist Services, but additionally headache, epilepsy and some general neurology. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills into your specialist area and become a key part of both the clinical and pharmacy teams, all to help provide the best possible care for our patients.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work to establish themselves in the Neurology Speciality, focussing on Multiple Sclerosis Specialist Services, but additionally headache, epilepsy and some general neurology. Within pharmacy you will work in the existing Clinical Pharmacy Team who report to the Surgical and Specialist Services Board. You will need excellent communication and decision-making skills and be an experienced independent prescriber. Experience of working in a specialist area or prescribing specialist medication would be an advantage but is not essential.
There will be an expectation that the pharmacist in this role will identify and deliver cost savings through a number of interventions such as biosimilar switching. The post holder will also lead on switching patients' medications over to homecare. The post holder will work closely with our staff in medicines management and homecare teams.

This is a newly created role and there will be plenty of scope to develop the service based on the service needs and interest; including outpatient clinic delivery. You will be crucial in driving the direction of travel. The role will offer the opportunity to provide your expertise to patients in a variety of settings.
There will be opportunities for personal and professional development within the role. Links with the School of Pharmacy at Newcastle University will present opportunities to be involved in research and education. There is ample opportunity to develop your supervision and management skills in the department.
The right candidate will also be expected to:
Take on a leadership role, act as a role model and deputise for the Board Lead Clinical Pharmacist
Organise rotas and give clear educational support to junior members of the teams
Lead ward based audits related to medicines management and governance
Take on managerial responsibilities such as direct line management, designated supervisor (DS) for foundation trainee pharmacists, designated prescribing practitioner (DPP).
Contribute to extended hours working (late nights, weekends and bank holidays)
Work operationally as part of our dispensary team; have allocated clinical screening slots and helping out during busy periods
