If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen at Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to join the Finance Directorate as a Deputy Cost Accountant.
In this advanced role, you will support the Cost Accountant in delivering a high-quality costing service and deputise when required. You'll be part of a dynamic team responsible for producing accurate financial and activity-based information in line with national costing standards. This includes quarterly costing system runs, Service Line Reporting (SLR), Patient Level Information and Costing Systems (PLICS), and contributing to the annual National Cost Collection.
You'll also work closely with internal and external stakeholders, providing insightful costing analysis and visualisations using Power BI, and helping to drive improvements in service efficiency and financial performance across the Trust.

Main duties of the job
- Assist in the provision of a high-quality costing service and deputise for the Cost Accountant when necessary.
- Produce costing outputs including SLR, PLICS, National Cost Collection, and statutory returns.
- Deliver activity-based costing reports to key stakeholders and support operational boards with financial advice.
- Develop Power BI dashboards and visualisations to provide greater insight into Trust services.
- Integrate data from Trust systems into the data warehouse in collaboration with the Systems and Data Architect.
- Benchmark Trust services and identify areas for financial improvement using tools like the Model Health System.
- Train and support finance team members and wider Trust staff in costing methodologies and systems.
- Represent the Trust at external costing events and embed learning into internal processes.
- Maintain financial controls in line with Corporate Governance guidelines.
- Lead and manage the costing team in the absence of the Cost Accountant.

- Ensure that the financial and activity information is produced in accordance with national costing standards and to produce all areas of costing including Service Line Reporting, Patient Level Costing, National Cost Collection and other statutory returns.
