Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and dedicated nurse to join the Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary (HPB) Surgical Team at the Freeman Hospital. The HPB Unit is the Regional Cancer Centre for the North of England, providing a specialist service to our regional hospitals.

We are one of the top regional centres in the UK, providing a comprehensive range of specialist tests, treatments, and procedures for all types of Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary disease. This includes the Sudden and Acute Pancreatitis Remote Care Service.

You should be a Registered Nurse with experience in a nursing role, educated to or working towards degree level, and have good knowledge and experience of both chronic and acute HPB conditions and diseases, specifically, with an interest in patients who have Pancreatitis.

Working within the existing HPB team consisting of Clinical Nurse Specialists, HPB consultant surgeons, HPB Cancer Care Coordinator, HPB Administrator and HPB MDT Coordinator, you will be required to work both independently and actively as part of a multi-disciplinary team to facilitate the care pathway of this specialised patient group.

Main duties of the job

The role of the HPB CNS is multifaceted and the duties are diverse, encompassing, support for patients and their families during difficult and sometimes sensitive times, physical presence during surgical consultation incorporating the duties as the designated keyworker, as appropriate to the role. In addition to this, you will be expected to participate in audit and to support the education of ward staff from a surgical perspective. You will also be expected to share information and liaise with the regional referring teams to ensure a good overall outcome for the patient. You will need to be compassionate and innovative and be prepared to develop services in line with local and national policies and guidelines. You should also possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
