Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Waiting List Coordinator within Cardiothoracic Board. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Cardiothoracic Waiting List team, ensuring appropriate delegation of work and line management. This role is responsible for facilitating the admission of elective and emergency Cardiothoracic patient referrals, ensuring that patients are admitted according to clinical priority and that all relevant Government targets are achieved.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the efficient use of beds ensuring that all emergency admissions are admitted in a timely fashion and that no elective patient breaches the guaranteed maximum waiting time.The post holder is also responsible for implementing and managing allGovernment targets relating to inpatients in Cardiothoracic Services. These include reduction in cancelled operations, management of delayed discharges, booking systems and contribution to the patient choice agenda. Consequently the post holder plays a key role in the achievement of all waiting list targets within the Directorate.The post holder will ensure appropriate delegation of work between team members and off training and line management support in alignment with HR policies and procedures.

Job responsibilities

  • Day to day management of waiting list clerks on a daily basis.
  • Support and line manage staff including absence management, sickness, appraisals and performance.
  • Coordinate complex admissions procedure to maximise theatre utilisation.
  • Review and control elective admissions by forecasting bed availability to avoid same day cancellations.
  • Ensure booking system is implemented to enable patients to have input into their proposed admission date whilst achieving waiting list targets.
