Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to join our Nuclear Medicine team based at the University Hospital of North Durham. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to contribute to maintenance of the aseptic environment in our Radiopharmacy alongside assisting in the delivery of a comprehensive Nuclear Medicine and DEXA service performing approximately 4200 patient examinations per year.

The successful candidate will be able to undertake the physical requirements of the role, put patient care at the centre of their work and demonstrate excellent team working skills. Amongst other tasks the post holder will assist with cleaning of the radiopharmacy to maintain the aseptic environment, undertake stock checks and assist with patient investigations.

Nuclear Medicine services at Darlington, Durham and Hartlepool are provided by the Northern Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Directorate of Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals. The multi disciplinary team of around 30 technologists, nurses, associate practitioners, clinical scientists, administration staff, radiologists and cardiologists work collaboratively across the three sites, and have a strong history of staff development and training. Main duties of the job

  • Member of Nuclear Medicine team delivering comprehensive services to a wide range of referrers. This includes external hospitals, Trust clinicians and health care professionals, local GPs, private and community health care professionals as necessary with around 3000 procedures performed per year.
  • Duties involve assisting with the production of Nuclear Medicine images and care of the patients across the Nuclear Medicine department, under the direct supervision of qualified Clinical Technologists.
  • The post holder will assist in the safe manufacture of sterile radiopharmaceuticals for use across the Trust, this includes contributing to the maintenance of a sterile environment, monitoring of the radiopharmacy suite and stock control.
