Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to work in Endoscopy, Freeman Hospital. This is a great developmental opportunity as we currently care for a mixture of patient undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This exciting and challenging role will help to support the team in providing a safe and positive experience and to ensure high quality patient care is delivered.
This post will give the successful candidate the opportunity to develop skills and abilities in a leadership role, supporting the senior sister and ensuring the delivery of high quality care with a person centred approach. Staff development and supporting the team will be a priority to ensure trust standards are met.
It would be desirable for the applicant to have extensive knowledge of caring for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures and ability to allocate and support staff as needed.

The Band 6 role incorporates clinical nursing care and being the clinical lead to support the nursing team. Under the supervision of the senior sister, you will be responsible for staff education and training, safe staffing levels, clinical standards and audit.

Job responsibilities
Endoscopy is a 3 procedure room department caring for patients undergoing multiple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. We also cover 1 list per week in the Theatres at Freeman hospital. Working alongside the theatre team. The role also involves the coordination of assisting with procedures in ITU.
The patients come from a diverse case load, with patients from across several surgical and medical specialties, including PB and general surgery, colorectal, Upper G.I, gastroenterology and respiratory medicine.
- To support the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse / Senior ODP, acting as a deputy when the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse / Senior ODP is absent.
- In areas within the organisation Nurses / ODPs may be banded at 6 by virtue clinical reasons, for example, critical care.
- Provide effective support and leadership to staff, patients and carers within the Theatre or Department.
- Act as role model, teacher and supervisor for junior staff and students.
- Ensure systems are in place to provide the continuity of safe effective care for patients at all times.
- Effective member of the multi-disciplinary team
- May be required to participate in an On-call rota as required.
