Are you caring, conscientious and motivated with a passion to work as a Maternity Support Worker at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals. Full and part time hours are available. Flexibility is offered within this post can include nights, weekends, and bank holidays. Successful candidates will be supported to work towards the Care Certificate, with further development opportunities in line with Health Education England: Maternity Support Worker Competency, Education and Career Development Framework.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for individuals who are motivated, enthusiastic and have a distinct passion for caring for woman, babies, and their families; to support compassionate holistic care across the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period.

The postholder will undertake clinical tasks such as venepuncture of adults, neonatal capillary blood sampling via heel prick and Newborn Blood Screening tests as well as undertaking and recording both maternal and neonatal observations and escalating to Midwife, Nurse or Doctor should concerns be identified.

You will be able to provide public health information to parents and families around immunisations, screening, healthy pregnancy advice and safe sleeping

As a Maternity Support Worker, you will have a key role to support women in their chosen method of infant feeding in line with UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiatives and the practical skills required to care for a baby; these include, skin to skin, positioning and attachment, hand expression, the use of a breast pump and preparing artificial feeds and equipment. It is an incredibly special time in the first few days when a family has grown and this position offers the privilege to support relationships to develop as families bond.
