Job summary

The Dermatology Department is excited to be able to offer the opportunity for two reliable, enthusiastic, hardworking full time Waiting List Officers to join the team. They will work alongside the waiting list team and other administrative teams. The role of Waiting List Officer will include booking patients into theatre lists in line with national targets and clinical urgency, led by the medical team. Other duties will include but not be limited to dealing with telephone queries from patients and colleagues, adding patients onto the waiting list using Trust's electronic patient administration system and other general office duties.

The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, flexibility, reliability, must have an organised approach to work and attention to detail are all essential to help support patient flow through the service. Though the job can be challenging at times it is also rewarding.

They should be able to integrate well with the team, be flexible in supporting the functions of the department and have a genuine desire to contribute to providing a quality service for patients.

Main duties of the job

  • Adding patients to the waiting list.
  • Booking patients into theatres and coordinating theatre lists.
  • Taking patient calls and assisting with queries and any changes to appointments.
  • Working closely with other waiting list team members to monitor waiting times and avoid any potential breaches.

  • The Waiting List administrative service contributes towards a systematic approach to delivering the NHS Plan commitments for access to elective and day case surgery, specifically the drive to guarantee maximum waiting times and introduce Patient Choice through booking systems. The sensitivity around clinical and management priorities will require the post holder to work with and have the confidence of Consultants and Directorate Managers.
  • Information management and data quality is essential to ensuring effective management of waiting lists.
