Job summary

We are looking to offer a one year secondment for a suitably experienced individual to join the Financial Services team to cover a period of maternity leave.

The position of Deputy Financial Services Manager - Capital leads the Capital Finance team and plays a pivotal role within the department ensuring a high quality capital accounting service is provided to the Trust.

The Trust currently has a planned capital programme of £54.3m for the 2025/26 financial year and the successful candidate would be to take responsibility for the for monitoring and forecasting spend against this plan.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will lead a team of three staff and, supported by the Assistant Finance Director - Financial Services, will be responsible for the following tasks;

  • Monitoring and forecasting spend against the Trust's capital plan
  • Reporting of progress against plan as well as attending the Trust's monthly Capital Management Group
  • Taking a lead role in producing year end accounts disclosures and working papers relating to capital
  • Maintaining the Trust's asset and leases registers and calculation of monthly depreciation figures
  • Ensuring leased assets are appropriately accounted
  • Providing adhoc accounting advice to colleagues and other departments relating to capital
  • Leading the Trust's annual property revaluation exercise

  • Professional accountancy qualification or equivalent knowledge, experience and expertise. Evidence of participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

  • ECDL or equivalent experience

  • IN depth specialist and practical knowledge of relevant accounting standards, VAT taxation cash treasury management and year end/month end accounting processes
  • Substantial experience in the finance department of a complex organisation. Demonstrable experience in management accounting, including ability to provide detailed guidance and advice to finance and non-finance managers within own area
  • Staff management experience and the ability to plan and organise a range of complex activities and programmes

Desirable

  • Previous NHS finance experience at a senior level
  • Experience of report writing

  • Ability to communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information to a range of audiences using a range of different communication methods
