Job summary

The Imaging Physics and Radiation Safety unit of the Northern Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering directorate is seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic clinical technologist with knowledge and experience in diagnostic radiology to join our expanding team of Clinical Scientists and Technologists.

You will work within one of the largest regional Medical Physics services in the UK, where you will play a major role in the delivery of our quality assurance programme of diagnostic X-ray imaging equipment to a number of NHS Trusts and private customers across the north of England. Around 700 pieces of equipment are tested by the Diagnostic Radiology QA (DRQA) service annually.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will carry out measurements on a wide range of diagnostic imaging equipment in radiology departments, health centres, primary care centres and community diagnostic centres located across the North East of England and Cumbria and prepare reports on equipment performance and safety for clinical users. They will assist with workload planning and the provision of information on service activity and contribute more generally with the development of the DRQA service. They will also contribute to the training and development of new or junior technologists, STP trainees and other staff as appropriate.

Applicants should have a degree in a relevant subject or equivalent training. As well as experience of operating imaging and radiation measuring equipment, experience of carrying out scientific measurements and the analysis of data. Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidelines is desirable.

As the post requires frequent travel to other hospitals in the region, a current UK driving licence and a willingness to drive is essential.
