Are you a motivated nurse with extensive experience in Paediatric Critical Care?
There has never been a better time to join our Paediatric Critical Care team at the Great North Children's Hospital. With an expanding service, and a plan for new Paediatric High Dependency Unit with the initial opening of 2 beds, now is the time to join our team. We have 12 commissioned PICU beds and 2 PHDU beds.
The successful candidate will be able to prove a high level of achievement, motivation and enthusiasm in their current role, with extensive experience in a children's intensive care unit. They will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the unique challenges of a Paediatric Critical Care whilst remaining professional, resilient, optimistic and resourceful.
We support our local children in the North East and Cumbria who require emergency treatment or are undergoing surgery requiring Intensive Care admission. Our PICU is a busy dynamic unit providing care for children with a variety of health care needs. Specialties include neurosurgery, neurology, trauma, oncology, BMT and plastic surgery, as well as paediatric surgery, paediatric infectious diseases and paediatric medicine.

Main duties of the job
The role will work seamlessly alongside the PICU Senior Nursing Team and the Great North Children's Hospital Matrons and will be supported by the Directorate Management Team. Our PICU is a busy dynamic unit providing care for children with a variety of health care needs. Specialties include neurosurgery, neurology, trauma, oncology, BMT and plastic surgery, as well as paediatric surgery, paediatric infectious diseases and paediatric medicine.
The specialist skills that are adopted throughout the varied training programmes available within the unit are transferrable for your future career progression. The Paediatric Critical Care Unit is an indispensable part of the Children's service and strategy, ensuring that local children can be treated and cared for in their local hospital. It is also a tertiary referral centre accepting admissions from throughout the North East and further afield to support the increasing demand for Paediatric Critical Care.

- To support the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse, acting as a deputy when the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse is absent.
- In areas within the organisation nurses may be banded at 6 by virtue clinical reasons, for example, critical care.
- Provide effective support and leadership to both staff, patients and carers within the ward or department.
- Act as role model, teacher and supervisor for junior staff and students.
- Ensure systems are in place to provide the continuity of safe effective care for patients at all times.
- Effective member of the multi-disciplinary team.
