Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist to join The Major Trauma Rehabilitation Service at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. The successful candidate will work on the Major Trauma Rehabilitation Unit - a dedicated 10 bedded unit providing Level 2b specialist rehabilitation to patients following traumatic injury. Working as part of the MDT to provide Occupational Therapy assessment and interventions on the Major Trauma Rehabilitation Unit.

We would welcome candidates with experience of delivering specialist rehabilitation for patients with complex musculoskeletal and / or neurological injuries. The successful candidate will work as part of an MDT consisting of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Dietetics, speech and language therapists, Social work and Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine.

The Major Trauma Rehabilitation Service is 365 days a year service. The post has late shift, weekend and bank holiday commitment.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide a high standard of Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to patients with complex and highly complex needs as a result of traumatic injury. The successful candidate will require excellent communication skills, problem solving, and reasoning skills. Being able to work both independently as an autonomous practitioner, and as part of a team is essential for this role.

The role requires the ability to complete functional and standardized assessments, provide appropriate treatment interventions, and where clinically indicated assess and provide equipment and adaptations, carry out Environmental and Home assessment Visits, discharge planning and on-going referrals.

The successful candidate will act as a key worker to advocate for designated patients during their inpatient stay and also complete follow up telephone consultations post discharge.
