Apprentice Dental Technician

Job summary

We're hiring a full-time Apprentice Dental Technician; this is a temporary training post for 3 years. You must hold a Level 3 qualification in any subject or have at least five GCSEs (grade C/4+), including English and Math's. Strong manual dexterity, organisational skills, and attention to detail are essential. You will be undertaking distance learning provided by the University of Greater Manchester, where you will gain an FdSc foundation degree in Dental Technology. You will be expected to travel to Bolton for practical and written exams, but You will be based in Newcastle dental hospital which is a leading hospital in its field.

Main duties of the job

You'll construct basic dental appliances from clinical prescriptions, clean and maintain lab equipment, all under the supervision of a qualified dental technician. There are three main disciplines in dental technology, prosthodontics, conservation, and orthodontics. You will gain experience in all these fields and spend time in the appropriate labs.

The role requires long periods of focused work, often with exposure to fumes, chemicals, and vibrations. Adherence to health and safety protocols, including COSHH, is required.

To develop skills and knowledge in all aspects of dental technology, including interpersonal skills between other members of the dental team, and to work towards gaining the FdSc Foundation Degree Dental Technology thereby being able to apply for professional registration with the GDC.

Apprenticeship Posts You will need to be able to meet all the eligibility requirements as prescribed by the apprenticeship criteria to undertake the role.

To be eligible for an apprenticeship you must:

  • Have the right to work and remain in the UK.
  • Have lived in the UK for at least 3 years.
  • Provide original evidence of required English and maths qualifications.
