Job summary

Due to expansion of the CT scanning services, we are looking for experienced and motivated Radiographers to join our friendly and hardworking team in the Radiology department at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.

The role involves working within both the CT and general radiography modalities, providing high quality imaging and patient centred care for a range of complex imaging examinations representative of a specialist and tertiary referral centre. Providing imaging for our patients can be challenging but rewarding.

The posts are ideally suited for experienced Radiographers who wish to extend their skills in CT and can cope with working in a high pressure, high throughput environment, whilst always maintaining the best level of patient care and image quality.

You will be required to work independently as part of the CT on-call service from home in evenings and weekends.

Good organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team, or independently is required.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will be required to rotate through the CT and general radiography modalities delivering the highest possible patient care and imaging service.

Detailed knowledge and understanding of anatomy, general radiographic practices and methods of reducing radiation dose, as well as a working knowledge of ionising radiation legislation (IR (ME) R) is required.

Previous experience in CT would be extremely beneficial to this role and a post graduate qualification in a clinical speciality, or post graduate specialist short courses or relevant specialist experience would be desirable.

The successful candidates will also be expected to train in cannulation and undertake CT Colonography examinations following appropriate training.

Whilst the post is based at the Freeman Hospital, rotation to the Royal Victoria Infirmary may be necessary in times of staff shortages.

Working knowledge of all relevant professional and NHS policies and procedures is essential, as is the need to have the IT skills necessary for Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).

Opportunities are available for personal and professional development and the post holder may be encouraged to take on additional responsibilities such as, Radiation Protection Supervisor, manual handling facilitator, Health and Safety Representative, Society of Radiographers Representative or CPR trainer.
