Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Ward Clerk to join our team on Ward 2a, Great North Children's Hospital. We are looking for a dedicated, compassionate and approachable individual who will complement our team.

Our team is looking for a candidate who is reliable and highly organised individual who has excellent communication skills. You must also be able to demonstrate an adaptable, enthusiastic approach to your work, and the ability to manage your workload with various competing demands for your attention within a busy clinical area. The ideal candidate will have previous clerical experience along with excellent communication and IT Skills.

You should be able to work within departmental guidelines in compliance with government legislation and Trust policies and procedures. You should be able to manage your time effectively and have good organisational skills.

Main duties of the job

  • Basic IT knowledge is essential. Previous NHS experience with e-record and working within a ward clerk environment is desirable.
  • The role involves providing a front line clerical service to clinical staff within the ward, ensuring an appropriate standard of support is delivered in a timely manner.
  • You will provide a meet and greet service to visitors, patients and staff.
  • A key responsibility for the post holder is to ensure the timely and accurate inputting of data is captured for our in-patient activity, admissions, transfers and discharges of patients to and from the ward. and appointments for new and follow up out patients.
  • Additional duties will include stock ordering, supporting the nursing team and bed management team.
  • Effective communication required to support the MDT along with timely communication to the necessary secretaries within our specialities.

  • The post is suitable for an individual wishing to work as part of the multidisciplinary team, providing indirect patient care. There will be considerable communication with patients, families and clinical staff in the ward environment. The successful candidate will be required to work Thursdays and Fridays.
