An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time band 6 nurse (12 month fixed-term contract) based on ward 3, Freeman Hospital.
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and forward thinking individual; an interest in urology nursing and a strong sense of ownership of their ward. As such this band 6 position will provide a varied multifaceted role in the field of urology allowing for personal growth and development.
The Freeman Hospital is home to the North East's urology unit offering all forms of urology care under one roof.
Urology is one of the most innovative surgical specialties and our urologists carry out modern, high-tech, robotic, fibreoptic and endoscopic techniques (sometimes called minimally-invasive surgery).

Main duties of the job
Ward 3 is a 30-bedded ward caring for both elective and emergency patients. The purpose of this post is to make a positive impact on the experience of patients and carers by providing high standards of clinical practice.
Responsibilities of this role include supporting and contributing to the effective management of staff and patients of a busy ward.
The post holder will also be responsible for supporting the Senior Sister in the monitoring of the maintenance of required standards of practice.
The post holder will have a strong belief in the trust vision and core values and will ensure that these are at the forefront of the delivery of high quality care to patients within Urology.

- To support the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse, acting as a deputy when the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse is absent.
- In areas within the organisation nurses may be banded at 6 by virtue clinical reasons, for example, critical care.
- Provide effective support and leadership to both staff, patients and carers within the ward or department.
- Act as role model, teacher and supervisor for junior staff and students.
- Ensure systems are in place to provide the continuity of safe effective care for patients at all times.
- Effective member of the multi-disciplinary team
- May be required to participate in an On-call rota as required.
Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first months pay.
