Job summary

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team.

The Clinical Research Fellow Post is a demanding but exciting opportunity in a busy quaternary vascular centre leading over £5million of NIHR funded research. The aim of the post is to facilitate the delivery of national research projects and initiatives by leading recruitment to trials and participating in the regular research team meetings. Overall, this post will provide core research skills for onward application to higher training. The post will enable the applicant to participate in research projects and opportunities with a view to outputs such as presentations and potentially publications. The clinical aspect to the research post will be to support the SHO/RSO level on-call rota in General Surgery, and support the Vascular Surgery team in elective work.

This post is to commence on 6 August 2025 until 4 August 2026. Candidates must possess full UK GMC registration with a license to practise at application. Previous NHS experience is essential.

Please read attached Job Description and Person Specification.

Main duties of the job

This exciting job is primarily aimed at developing the applicants curriculum vitae to enable onward application into higher surgical training. The research focus will be on participation in national vascular research studies by recruitment to trials. There will be the option of developing in-house research projects with supervision from academic vascular colleagues. The expectation is that research delivery is at the heart of this post, this will develop knowledge in the research fields within vascular surgery (James-Lind Alliance Priorities, national research frameworks and funding structures) and potentially stimulate the development of applicant-led research projects as part of the wider academic team. These responsibilities will lie alongside clinical commitments that include the on-call resident surgical officer/ Senior-House officer role in General Surgery and supporting the elective work of the Vascular Surgery team.

As a flexible working friendly organisation, we want to be sure that you can work in a way that is best for us and for our patients, and for you. Speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate a flexible working arrangement. If it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.
