Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our expanding ENT Nurse Practitioner service . We are currently undergoing a large scale service redesign with an emphasis on delivering an enhanced Nurse Practitioner outpatient service . This role with involve the clinical review of both new patients referred to the service, and patients requiring ongoing care. It is expected that you will review both adults and paediatrics . In addition we anticipate the role will expand over time to involve the care of patients in our ENT Casualty service . This change in service delivery will be underpinned by a robust training programme and a supportive approach to supervision as required .
This is a great opportunity for candidates with a passion for ENT care to play a key role in the development of the service.

Main duties of the job
Undertaking full clinical assessment of patients referred with a wide range of ENT clinical conditions . The successful candidates with be expected to make appropriate diagnosis of a defined group of patients and recommend a plan of care for patients . This will involve the requesting of radiological investigations and prescribing of medication
Over time the Nurse Practitioner will support with the management of emergency patients presenting to ENT casualty and support the development of an ambulatory care service

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust define a nurse practitioner as a qualified nurse where the primary purpose of role is to perform a specific technological procedure/s e.g. endoscopy, ultrasound in a defined patient group and/or advanced patient assessment and clinical decision making in a broad patient group e.g complex HPB patients
To deliver a quality of service matching clinical need to available resources within the focus of specialist nursing practice:
- To ensure that the patient is the central focus of a streamlined patient journey ensuring optimal quality of care.
- Working as a nurse practitioner, provide a prompt response to calls from colleagues, prioritising importance and clinical need.
- Manage own caseload to include assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment within defined parameters and training.
- Provide immediate care management of patient including communication of plan to patients and significant others.
- Review and refer to appropriate person, e.g. AHP, resident medical staff, specialist registrar or critical care outreach team.
- Liaising with Patient Services Coordinator where necessary.
- Communicate within multidisciplinary team, ward/departmental staff and/or out of hours team.
- Provide specialist education and training to departmental nursing staff, nursing and medical students.
- To provide support to the HPB team, rounds, clinics including rapid access clinics o To work alongside allied health professionals as a team. E.g Physician associates, Surgical scrub practitioners.
