Job summary
We are delighted to be able to offer opportunities for highly motivated ambitious individuals to join a well-integrated team within the Department of Ophthalmology, in the post of Medical Retina Fellow (ST5+). The post is available from February 2025 for 12 months in the first instance. This post will be of interest to those who are looking to gain further experience in all areas of medical retina (retinal vascular, diabetic retinopathy, age related macular conditions, uveitis, electrodiagnostic, imaging, genetics). The successful candidate would join a team of 8 consultants, 1 specialist and 1 speciality doctor, 3 fellows, Residents and ophthalmic practitioners, who are part of a larger team of 30 consultants and their support staff. In addition there will be the opportunity for some emergency ophthalmology clinical work.
The Royal Victoria Infirmary has a large Ophthalmology department covering all aspects of ophthalmology and is well equipped with the full range of diagnostic equipment especially for medical retina including wide field OCTA, colour, FFA&ICG and electrodiagnostic tests. Main duties of the job
Clinical:
To provide clinical expertise in line with agreed job plan.
To work as part of the medical retina and wider departments teams
Administrative:
To ensure communication with other healthcare professionals occurs in an effective and timely manner.
Teaching:
To attend approriate teaching
To contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate ophthalmology teaching programmes.
To contribute to the training of non-medical practitioners and community optometrists
Research:
Involvement in research encouraged.
