Job summary
The Belsay Day Unit is a multidisciplinary team (MDT) which focuses on improving the health of older adults or those experiencing falls. Our team compromises medical, nursing, occupational therapy and physiotherapy clinicians. Our MDT is a welcoming and collaborative group who treat a wide variety of conditions and use different treatment approaches to ensure our patients receive person centred care. This makes working in our clinic engaging and no two days are the same.
We are presently based at the Neighbourhood of Health Innovation (previously the Newcastle General Hospital) however, the team will be moving to Freeman Hospital later this 2025. Regardless of team location this post will include work across Trust sites including Freeman, Royal Victoria Infirmary, Neighbourhood of Health Innovation and patient's home.

Main duties of the job
Group exercise sessions: including assessment and provision of group rehabilitation under supervision of a qualified therapist for a variety of conditions. This includes:
- Strength Training Group
- Balance and Gait Rehabilitation
- Parkinson's Disease
- Hydrotherapy
Individual rehabilitation: Assessment and provision of 1:1 therapy programs under supervision of a qualified therapist for a variety of conditions. These conditions include:
- Sarcopenia and Frailty
- Mobility and Gait Rehabilitation
- Parkinson's Disease
- Balance / Vestibular Impairments
- Joint / Orthopedic Conditions
- Dementia / Mental Health conditions
As required, attend patient's home to fit or supply equipment
Non-clinical duties include:
- Managing waitlist and booking patients for group exercise including hydrotherapy
- Booking transport for patients who require this for groups
- Documentation for group and individual therapy sessions
- Complete discharge summaries for patients participating in groups
- Complete referrals and signposting as required to other services ( e.g., podiatry, community exercise groups)
- Ordering of equipment as required for team
- Data entry for audit purposes to review group effectiveness
- Complete quality improvement projects
- Participate in team in-services
- Communicate and coordinate with team members for allocation of clinic duties

We met regularly for in-services and complete regular audit of our service to ensure best practice. Our team have specialist knowledge of Parkinsons specific exercise training, vestibular rehabilitation, balance therapy, hydrotherapy, strength training in sarcopenia to name a few and in this role you will get further training and development of these therapy approaches through shadowing and supervision. In addition to this our team regularly attends external CPD courses to continuously improve what we offer our patients.
This role is varied with a mix of 1:1 patient treatment carrying your own caseload as well as provision and organization of group exercise including strength, balance, hydrotherapy and exercises for people with Parkinsons Disease.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated team member to further enhance our specialist unit.
Opportunities:
- In addition to in-house teaching opportunities, attending external CPD courses for relevant therapy approaches including PD specific exercise programs, balance rehabilitation and hydrotherapy.

- To undertake specific skilled support work to aid the Physiotherapy team in the efficient and effective delivery of Physical Rehabilitation to patients within speciality area within the framework of clinical governance
- To accept a patient caseload referred by a physiotherapist according to specific criteria. To treat patients according to set protocols, monitoring patient progress, modifying and progressing patient treatment programmes as required, with referral back to physiotherapists as/when appropriate
- To carry out basic assessment and treatment of non-complex patients as delegated by the physiotherapist (to include basic chest physiotherapy and mobility protocols)
- To provide and deliver individualised exercise programmes
- To accurately record rehabilitation progress as per Trust documentation / database including physiotherapeutic outcome measures
- To undertake a clinical caseload within speciality area , without supervision for at least 50% of the time within protocols and guidelines set by the designated physiotherapist
- To coordinate, supervise and teach junior therapy assistants
