Job summary

We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and flexible candidate to join our hepatology research team as a Clinical Trials Assistant based at the Freeman Hospital.

This post would suit an individual with a patient facing background who is keen to develop their career, gaining new practical skills and knowledge in research.

The post holder will work within the clinical research nurse team assisting with the delivery of commercial research and NIHR portfolio adopted studies. You will need to be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team, and will have the support of senior research personnel with a strong emphasis on professional development.

Main duties of the job

This is a clinical patient facing post, which requires a dynamic individual who can work both individually and as part of a team. We offer patients and their families the opportunity to participate in research studies that they are eligible for.

It is essential that the post holder has healthcare experience and previous experience of phlebotomy would be beneficial.

Along with the relevant and appropriate experience you will need to demonstrate initiative, excellent communication skills, good time management and an interest in hepatology.A full programme of induction and ongoing support will be provided to the successful candidate who will have the opportunity to facilitate the delivery of research studies within the hepatology speciality.

  • Maintain effective communication with patients, carers and professional to ensure service delivery
  • Communicates effectively with research team and study participants and their family members. Is able to provide patients with information, which may be complex or sensitive, regarding their participation in the clinical trial and the care that theywill receive as a consequence of that
  • Facilitate the recruitment of research participants in to low risk research studies, which is likely to include quality of life and tissue sample collection studies

  • NVQ level 4 or equivalent qualification or NVQ level 3 and an ability to demonstrate significant experience relevant to role

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Experience of caring for patients in a professional setting
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Understanding of the Trust's confidentiality procedures (Data Protection Act, Caldicott guidelines)

Desirable

  • Evidence of any education related training programs pertaining to clinical trials
  • Experience of using NHS patient management systems
  • Knowledge regarding the mandatory standard regarding conduction/construction of clinical trials (to include ICH GCP, UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research etc.)
