Job summary

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated Clinical Scientist with specialist knowledge and experience in diagnostic radiology physics to join our expanding team of Clinical Scientists and Technologists. As a certified medical physics expert (MPE), you will work within one of the largest Regional Medical Physics Services in the UK and be appointed as a diagnostic radiology MPE to one or more organisations. You will also be responsible for the coordination and development of teaching and training activities within the Imaging Physics and Radiation Safety Unit.

As part of our large and friendly team you will be supported to further develop your skills and interests and participate in the research activity of the department plus a structured HSS equivalence programme which is currently under local development.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities and duties of the job are:

  • Appointment as MPE to one or more NHS Trusts and/or private organisations
  • Day to day management of specialism trainees on national Scientist Training Programme who are working within the Unit
  • Coordination of teaching and training activity within Unit, includingo Medical Physics MSc timetabling & coordination of markingo Organisation of CANVAS material for MSc programme & update of reading listso Oversight of internal staff training programmeso Coordination of FRCR teachingo Identification and development of new teaching/training activityo Support to staff delivering teaching & training
  • Contribution to delivery of teaching and training within Unit
  • Deputising for MSc Radiation Safety & Diagnostic Radiology Module lead as required

Applicants should have a degree in physics, or other appropriate subject, plus an appropriate post-graduate degree at master's level, or equivalent level of specialist knowledge and experience. Applicants must be registered as a clinical scientist and have experience as a diagnostic radiology medical physics expert (MPE). A current UK driving licence is essential as the post involves regular visits to other sites across Cumbria and the northeast of England.

Essential

  • Honours degree (1st or 2nd class) in Physics, or equivalent
  • MSc in Medical Physics or equivalent
  • HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist (Medical Physicist)
  • Certificate of competence in appropriate area, as detailed in role descriptor (or application in progress)
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Desirable

  • Ph.D. in Physics or related topic
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body
