We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team. The post is available to commence immediately for up to 12 months to provide support and receive training within our Renal Unit at the Freeman Hospital.
You will be responsible for the day to day care of renal inpatients and outpatients, dialysis and renal transplant patients under the supervision of the renal consultants within the unit. You will also contribute to supervision of the five renal junior doctors during the day. You will gain experience in the management of acute kidney injury, chronic kidney injury, end stage renal failure management, haemodialysis and CAPD and renal transplantation.
Main duties of the job
The post holders will be responsible for the day to day care of renal inpatients and outpatients, dialysis and renal transplant patients under the supervision of the renal consultants in the NUTH Renal Unit.
The standard day is 0900 to 1700. There is a EWTD compliant rota, non-resident on-call rota. The trainee will not take part in on-call duties until a period of induction and close supervision has been undertaken and both they and the supervising consultant are satisfied that they are competent and ready. The trainee will always have access to Consultant support during on-call periods.

- Primary Medical Qualification.
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice at time of application.
- Member of the Royal College of Physicians UK.
Desirable
- Higher degrees including MSc, PhD or MD (where research thesis is not part of first medical degree).
Clinical Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Experience at ST3 level (or acceptable alternative) of managing patients with renal disease.
- Experience of managing acute and chronic renal transplant recipients.
- Experience of managing patients suffering AKI in intensive care environments.
- Experience in managing external renal referrals by telephone or by the PatientPass referral service.
Desirable
- Experience in managing renal patients as both inpatient and outpatient.
- Evidence of skills in the management of acute medical emergencies.
Maintaining Clinical Competence
