Job summary

Porters carry out a variety of tasks including; patient movement, collection of all waste streams, delivery/collection of linen and many other important duties that require a great deal of physical dexterity and the ability to function in a very fast paced and demanding environment. Many of the tasks can be particularly repetitive and physically demanding. Please see job description for further information. Shift times will vary, you will generally work 5 days out of 7 to meet the needs of the department.

Main duties of the job

Please note that Porters new to the Trust are required to work on a flexible basis covering a variety of shifts which will include some bank holiday and weekend working. Staff are expected to provide effective / efficient Portering service using all equipment and resources available to the department. Primary duties will be to ensure that patients are transported safely between wards and departments, the collection of all waste streams, delivery and collection of linen to wards and other associated tasks.

  • To provide essential Fire, Rescue Team response to Helipad as required.

Desirable

  • Use of electrical equipment including driving of tugs and use of hand-barrows.
  • Knowledge of Trust sites an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Portering procedures / systems of operation

SKILLS

Essential

  • The post holder should be able to demonstrate a good level of communication and a team work ethic

EXPERIENCE

Desirable

  • Experience in customer service or customer care
  • Experience in a Portering role
  • Previous firefighting experience
  • Experience of working in a fast paced environment such as a warehouse or factory

QUALIFICATIONS

Desirable

  • NVQ 2 or similar qualifications (educated to Secondary Modern/Comprehensive School level)
