Job summary

We are looking for either a Clinical Technologist or Radiographer to join our friendly team providing a comprehensive clinical Nuclear Medicine service to the people of Newcastle Upon Tyne and Northumberland. The service is across two sites, one successful candidate will work at both the Royal Victoria Infirmary and the Freeman Hospital site. This is a full-time post for 37.5 hours per week.

The Nuclear Medicine & Bone Densitometry Department is part of the Radiology Directorate and performs around 18,000 procedures per year. On each site, facilities include a radiopharmacy, dual headed gamma cameras, a SPECT CT system, gamma counter, cell labelling suite and bone densitometry scanners. We also deliver a range of molecular radiotherapy treatments (for example Lu177 Dotatate, Ra223 Xofigo, I-131 therapy).

The candidate will be expected to have good communication skills and be a team player. You will work alongside other healthcare professionals including Clinical Scientists, Nurse Specialists, Radiologists, Radiography Assistants and clerical staff to provide the very best patient care in our busy department caring for paediatric and adult patients.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be providing the technical aspects of the nuclear medicine and bone mineral density service within the Trust.

The successful candidate would be expected to:-

  • Be responsible for the safe implementation of the practical/technical aspects of patient investigations.
  • Adhere to Trust and local policies relating to issues such as infection control, etc.
  • Implement local protocols, procedures and policies and contribute to their development where appropriate.
  • Perform computer processing of patient investigations.
  • Manufacture of radiopharmaceuticals according to Good Manufacturing Practice.
  • Perform administration of radiopharmaceuticals to patients.
  • Provide assistance for cardiac stress testing of patients where needed
  • Contribute to the training of new staff

The above may change to meet the needs and circumstances of Nuclear Medicine and Newcastle Hospitals.

Candidates should hold a relevant degree and have appropriate clinical experience. Membership or working towards registration of the Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT) or The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) will be required.
