Job summary

An exciting secondment opportunity, to cover maternity leave, has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join Tyneside Integrated Musculoskeletal Services (TIMS). The successful candidate will work within our complex musculoskeletal and persistent pain pathway as part of our multi-disciplinary team of Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Associate Practitioners, pain and rheumatology Consultants

There will be opportunities to work with patients who have a range of long term and complex msk conditions such as Inflammatory Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and Persistent Pain supported by well-established clinical pathways with colleagues across primary and secondary care. This post will allow you to develop a wide range of clinical, teaching and supervision skills. You will play an active role in audits and service development. You will also work closely with the other members of the team and share responsibility for managing more junior staff and students.

Professional support will be provided by colleagues within the Occupational Therapy Service in NUTH.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be expected to work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing occupational therapy within TIMS. They will manage a clinical caseload of patients offering both individual patient appointments and group sessions to support people with complex / persistent musculoskeletal pain to lead a valued and independent life.

The role includes supporting patients with conditions such as Inflammatory Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and persistent pain through a shared decision making process and supporting patient self-management. There will be opportunity to develop specific pain management skills such as pacing, goal setting, behaviour activation, mindfulness and relaxation.
