The Northern Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC) is one of the country's leading cancer treatment facilities located in 2 purpose built centres, one at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle and one in Carlisle, Cumbria, providing radiotherapy services to the population of the North East and Cumbria.
An opportunity has arisen to appoint a full time Senior Therapeutic Radiographer within Radiotherapy at NCCC.
Applications are invited from well-motivated and enthusiastic, experienced radiographers with pre- treatment imaging or treatment experience. It is expected that the candidate has IGRT experience. The post-holder will support the management of a section within the department ensuring the highest quality of technical practice, patient care and ensure workload targets are achieved. The post-holder will be required to work in imaging and treatment dependent on experience and departmental needs. The post holder will be required to have a flexible approach to working hours to accommodate service demands.

Main duties of the job
- Radiotherapy involves the use of ionising radiation in targeting tumours; the radiation is delivered to the patient using highly complex treatment machines (valued in excess of £1million).
- The radiotherapy departments in both Newcastle and Cumbria will benefit from state of the art equipment which includes 8 linear accelerators in Newcastle and 2 linear accelerators in Cumbria
- The imaging sections of the 2 department will have 3 CT scanners and a dedicated MRI scanner which are used in the pre-treatment process to provide images necessary to plan the patients' treatment and provide oncology diagnostic imaging for the Trust.
- The department has responsibility to train BSc radiotherapy students in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University
- The radiographers work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, along with Consultant Clinical Oncologists, Specialist registrars, physicist, medical technologist & specialist nurses in achieving a high standard of care for the patient.
