Job summary

We are open for applications for radiographers who are interested in training in mammography.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly breast screening and assessment team, who provide the highest quality of care to screening and symptomatic patients across the North East of England.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking enthusiastic, radiographers wanting to train in mammography to join our friendly and dedicated Breast Imaging Team in the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Breast Unit is a busy department working within both the National Breast Screening service and a Symptomatic Breast service. The ability to work both in a team and independently, and to communicate in a wide variety of settings, is essential.

The Newcastle Breast Screening Service delivers a screening service to a large rural area therefore a current driving licence and access to a car is essential.

Applicants for the above posts must hold a degree in Diagnostic or Therapeutic Radiography, be HCPC registered and have working knowledge of NHS policies and procedures. Applications will also be considered from qualified radiographers who are passionate about breast radiography and would like to train and complete the PGCert in Mammography.

  • Successfully complete a PgCert in Mammographic studies whilst in post
  • Knowledge relating to: Confidentiality and data protection act. Health & safety and fire procedures within the work place. Moving, handling awareness Resuscitation training.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Student training commitment
  • Commitment to out of hours services
  • Current driving licence and car owner

Desirable

  • A range of technical experience outside basic radiographic training programme.
  • A broad range of equipment usage
  • Special technique training e.g. CT
  • Experience of audit and quality assurance within the radiology department. (evidence based practice)
  • Work experience using a radiology information system.
  • Other health related studies, computer literacy courses
  • PC and word processing skills
  • Membership of the College of Radiographers
