Job summary
Are you looking to further your career as a Pharmacist in the area of solid organ transplantation?
We are looking for an outstanding candidate to develop the Clinical Pharmacy Service to the Institute of Transplantation at the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The IoT is a one-of-a-kind facility combining the care of liver, kidney, pancreas and cardiothoracic transplant recipients under one roof.
We need a self-starting individual with an innovative mindset to take full advantage of the potential of this role. Your initial challenge will be to work closely with the liver and kidney transplant teams and their patients to safely switch tacrolimus brand for the benefit of the health economy. Alongside this, and with the support of senior pharmacy colleagues in surgery and renal medicine, you will develop the clinical pharmacy service to the 22-bed inpatient transplant unit. Your impact in optimising medicines use and promoting medication safety will allow us to convert this fixed-term contract into a permanent post.
This is a two-year fixed-term post initially, although we anticipate we will be able to realise funding for a permanent post within this time frame.
- Interview Date Tuesday, 11 June 2024
- 37 Hours 30 Minutes/Week
- You will be redirected to Trac to apply for the vacancy. Please expand the job details section and read all of the information before applying for the vacancy.
Main duties of the job
You will work collaboratively with the liver and renal transplant teams and their patients, planning and delivering a project to switch the preferred brand of tacrolimus. You will need excellent communication and organisational skills, as well as an independent prescribing qualification.
You will also provide some clinical pharmacy expertise to the inpatient transplant unit, optimising inpatient medications and facilitating accurate, safe and effective discharges. You will help develop and deliver service improvement strategies which promote the safe, rational and cost-effective use of medicines in this area.
There will be opportunities for personal and professional growth within the role. Departmental links with the School of Pharmacy at Newcastle University will present opportunities to be involved in research and teaching. You will also be able to develop your people management and clinical supervision skills as a clinical diploma supervisor or Foundation Trainee Pharmacist mentor.
The role will involve some operational commitments, including supervision of the inpatient dispensary, screening of total parenteral nutrition and non-oncology cytotoxic medication, and participation in the dispensary late (until 6pm) and weekend working rotas.
