Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Registered Nurse to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic Directorate in the role of a Nurse Practitioner. The Trauma and Orthopaedic Directorate has Regional services which are across two hospital sites, the Freeman Hospital and the Royal Victoria infirmary, specialising in Elective and Emergency services providing specialist care, Specialised treatments and Specialised surgical procedures. The Directorate offers a comprehensive range of services which includes; Arthroplasty surgery, upper and lower limb surgery, a Regional Sarcoma Service, Orthopaedic Trauma service and a Major trauma service.

The Nurse Practitioner post will work within a team consisting of Consultant Surgeons, Nurse specialists and the Directorate Medical and Nursing teams. You will be required to work as part of the diverse Ward / Multidisciplinary team but also will need to work independently. You need to be a Registered Nurse with experience in a nursing role, educated to degree level and have a sound knowledge of Orthopaedic Surgical Care.

Main duties of the job

On appointment this will be either a Band 6 level until the attainment of skills, knowledge and the academic component at University over 36 months and completing competencies or Band 7 level if already an existing nurse practitioner who has all the required qualifications and skills for the role.

This role will be a rotational role with three other Nurse Practitioners who are based between three inpatient Trauma and Orthopaedic wards, providing a Monday to Friday day time service. You will need to be creative, highly motivated and possess excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
