Job summary
Do you have a keen interest in community physiotherapy and weight management? Would you enjoy the opportunity to work with patients to provide physiotherapy support to adults with complex obesity requiring tier 3 management? If yes, Newcastle Nutrition would like to offer you the opportunity to join a friendly, supportive and well- established community team on a temporary basis for 15 months as a Band 7.
We are looking for someone who has the following:
- Knowledge and experience of weight management.
- An innovative approach- keen to develop skills and pilot new ways of working.
- An interest in work which will help tackle barriers to engagement e.g., English is not a 1st language, social deprivation. Overall, reducing any inequalities in the care we provide to people living with obesity.
- An ability to collate data, to aid the evaluation of the evolving service.
In addition to excellent communication skills, candidates should be self-motivated to organise own workload across out- patient and community settings. Candidates should have experience, knowledge, and skills in supporting behaviour change, delivering group education and motivational interviewing. The team is committed to supporting staff development and encourages research, audit and CPD opportunities. The post holder will be based within the community but have support from a Physiotherapy Operational Lead. You will be required to work at locations across Newcastle and use electronic patient records.
Main duties of the job
- Organise and deliver a high-quality Physiotherapy service to patients in community settings.
- Have a keen interest and experience in adult weight management.
- Adaptable to seeing patients both 1:1 and in groups, utilising face:face, telephone and virtual- (Microsoft Teams/ Attend Anywhere) modes of communication.
- Deliver education and training to staff and students as required.
- Participate in team and multi-disciplinary audit, research and service improvement work.
- Attend and participate in MDT meetings and physiotherapy meetings
- Ensure compliance with our clinical governance framework and trust values.
- You will work in a manner which motivate colleagues, champions service user safety, dignity and drives continuous self and service improvement.
You should be enthusiastic and self-motivated and will
- Have a broad knowledge of general physiotherapy assessments and treatments and evidence of continuous professional development
- Be able to communicate well to both patients, students, and other health professionals.
- Have an interest in facilitating group education both in person and virtually.
- Overall have experience of or an interest to develop more advanced communication skills to aid behaviour change.
- Build links with community services and other weight management teams across the region.
- Be flexible, able to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
