Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and resilient health visitor to work within our progressive 0-19 service specialising in Accident Prevention & acting as a Primary Liaison Lead.

You will be experienced as a Health Visitor and knowledgeable about our 0-19 service and be ready and in a position to start progressive workstreams into the Specialist role set out in the Service Job plan that will be developed by you and the service lead / matron and guided by the needs of the service provision.

Main duties of the job

  • Your primary agenda will be to collate, review data and monitor the accident and non-accident rates, geographical locations and types, and develop educational knowledge for sharing the analysis of this data with staff and collaborative partners to support public health interventions.
  • This role will mean close liaisons with external agencies and will be a strategic role working collaboratively with Primary Care (PCNs), Accident Units, Urgent Treatment Centres and GNCH to develop pathways and referrals into and out of our service.
  • This includes supporting and managing our response to liaising with Primary care and the Single Point of Access, for which you will have some line.

  • The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust define a specialist health visitor as a qualified nurse where the primary purpose of role is to provide guidance and support based on advanced level knowledge to patients/clients, carers and health professionals concerning a specific public health practice area.
  • Within the sphere of specialist practice:o Demonstrates significant advanced knowledge and skills within speciality and sphere of practice.o Take a lead role facilitating the planning, delivery and evaluation of care pathways for a designated group of clients.o Support the development of nursing practice within the specialist field and contribute to the body of nursing knowledge.o Have corporate identity as an expert within specialist area.o Lead and provide training and education across the organisation in relevant area of practice.
  • The successful candidate will understand the pressures that impact the families and within services relating to injuries, accidents in the home and have ideas and motivation to look widely at how we can, as a service, support these. Therefore experience of working in other areas, such as AE / WTC/GP practice may be beneficial, but strong communications and organisational skills will be needed.
  • You will be expected to be autonomous within your job plan and develop, plan and evaluate your own work with regular supervision. Therefore, experience of working within audits and service improvements would also be beneficial.
  • You will be expected to attend strategic meetings with collaborative partners and therefore you will need to be organised and confident in communications skills. You will also need to have a UK driving licence and be able to move locations around the city as needed, with access to a car.
  • You will manage the running of the SPoA and be responsive to need. Leadership skills are needed.
