Job summary

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Clinical Pharmacist to lead a team of 10 Pharmacists and 5 Technicians providing clinical support to the newly formed Surgical and Specialist Services Clinical Board (Mainly Freeman). As this is a new post it is an ideal opportunity for someone who has the ability to identify where sustained improvements can be demonstrated to the satisfaction of senior members of the Surgical Clinical Board so business cases can be submitted and approved to deliver improved patient care and further develop existing clinical pharmacy service in line with pharmacy strategy.

As a Senior Pharmacist based on the Freeman site you will be expected to share the leadership of departmental clinical meetings at Freeman and also work closely with operational teams and your equivalent senior clinical pharmacist covering surgical services based on the Royal Victoria Infirmary site.

Given the strategic, leadership and management, clinical and operational responsibilities of this role we are we are looking for someone who is adaptable and able to manage their time well. The successful candidate will also have key role in developing innovative strategies to most effectively target finite clinical pharmacy resources using the evolving electronic tools that are now being used to identify the most high risk patients admitted to the trust. We are also therefore looking someone who is innovative and a leader in developing new ways of working.

Main duties of the job

  • Interview date: 22 April 2024
  • 37 hours 30 minutes/week

As an experienced Clinical Pharmacist you will be expected to lead a team covering a range of surgical specialties including colorectal, upper GI, breast, endocrine, urology, ENT, vascular and HPB. The team also provides some preadmission support to our Day Treatment Centre. Working closely with the Director of Operations, Head of Nursing and the Board Chair of the Surgical and Specialist Services Clinical Board (Mainly Freeman) and the Deputy Director of Pharmacy, the successful candidate will be expected to agree to and subsequently deliver a range of key objectives in line with Trust/pharmacy strategy aimed at improving the quality and safety of the service provided to our patients. While protected management time will be needed for the role we would expect the successful candidate to have regular clinical commitment in one or more of the Freeman based specialties and develop a high level of expertise in one or more clinical areas of their choice.

This role therefore requires someone who is able to work strategically with the Clinical Board and Pharmacy Department, provide leadership and management to the surgery team at Freeman and also deliver their own clinical services.
