As the department Housekeeper you will be an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team assisting the Ward / Department to maintain a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the patients, their families and visitors.
The department Housekeeper will actively contribute to the provision of nutrition of the patients on the Ward / Department. It will be a requirement of this role to report any concerns regarding the patient's condition to the qualified nurse.
It is vital that patient's privacy and dignity is maintained at all times whilst fulfilling the duties of this role.
The department Housekeeper will be required to abide by Trust policies and procedures.

Main duties of the job
Be an effective communicator by:
- Greet and receive patients, carers and other visitors to the ward / department in a courteous and helpful manner, whilst being mindful that there may be barriers to understanding.
- Provide and receive routine messages accurately and in ways that are understood by the recipient, referring issues to the appropriate person where necessary. This could be face to face, written, verbal or by using the IT system.
- Reports to the nurse coordinating the team activities: Nutrition intake of patients. Any environmental issues which require attention and whether they have been reported. Equipment that is not fit for purpose. Issues that have prevented the safe decontamination of equipment. Overstock or under stock of items.
- Maintain accurate timely records appropriate to role such as daily cleaning checklist and fridge temperatures.
- Report any accidents or incidents as per Trust policy.
- Use the Trust computerised patient information system for entering or retrieving patient information and tracking notes.
- Maintain up to date and tidy patient information and notice boards.
- Ensure communication is consistent with legislation, policy and procedure.
- Ensure all patient related information is treated sensitively and adhering to the principles of confidentiality at all times.

- Initiate emergency action when required e.g. Cardiac arrest, Fire.
- May be first point of contact for a complaint, or incident will ensure that it is reported in a timely manner.
- Prioritise workload.
- Notify Registered Nurses, responsible for the patients care if patients nutritional requirements are not being met.
- Initiate a course of action if equipment is found to be faulty or the environment is damaged, notifying qualified nurse when appropriate
Provide patient care by the following means
- Provides personal care to patients by ensuring their nutritional needs are met: If requested by a qualified nurse assist patients to eat and drink. Assist patients by helping them complete their daily menu card. Be aware of increased nutritional needs. Helps to prepare patients and environment for meals service
- Ensure privacy and dignity of patients at all times.
- Ensure that gender signage is appropriate (e.g. on toilet doors) and patients are aware of the location of gender appropriate facilities.
- Safeguarding vulnerable children and adults by reporting any concerns or problems to the nurse in charge.
- When requested escort and transfer patients to different wards and departments using relevant mode of transport and acting in a professional manner whilst doing this, having regard for the patients privacy and dignity.
- Ensure registered nurse responsible for the patient kept informed of any concerns regarding the patients condition.
- Be an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team assisting the Ward / Department to maintain a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the patients, their families and visitors.
- Report any concerns regarding the patients condition to the qualified nurse.
- Maintain patients privacy and dignity at all times.
- Report to the Nurse in Charge any issues that may prevent cleaning or compromise the safety of the environment.
- Actively contribute to the provision of nutrition of the patients on the Ward / Department.
- May undertake administrative and clinical duties as required.
- To abide by Trust policies and procedures.
