Job summary

This is an exciting and important time for Newcastle Hospitals Charity. We're growing as a team and in April 2024 we're moving into new premises which will be the launchpad for our next phase of our work. By 2026 we're aiming to raise funding of £10m every year to support the ideas and proposals which can make the biggest difference for the patients, staff, and our surrounding communities.

The Charity Systems and Planning Manager has a central part to play in helping our organisation get to where it wants to be. You'll help us select and implement the systems we need so that we can work in the most efficient and productive ways. You'll understand the best ways to build the confidence of all users to get the most out of those systems. This work will be the platform for key areas such as our supporters, income generation, grant making, finance management, and communications.

Main duties of the job

You'll help us to capture the data that we need to be a learning organisation that is committed to continual improvement. This in turn will drive our charity information management approach to help us provide the best possible services to the wide range of stakeholders we interact with.

In summary, you will be responsible for the project management and delivery of a wide and varied portfolio of digital projects. You'll have the track record and skills to ensure project outputs are delivered efficiently. A key focus of the role will be the ability to also work closely with different stakeholders to support them in delivering digital projects and enabling the organisation to progress in a timely manner towards project goals.

You will have excellent analysis skills to understand how the charity wants to develop, what our needs are, and what systems we need to put in place. Youll have the ability to generate and interpret complex data, and youll be able to communicate your findings clearly to help us plan for our continuing progress towards our targets for 2026.

This work will mean an ability to build relationships with a wide range of individuals, including your colleagues at the charity, commercial providers, and those working in the hospitals. Understanding what people need will be pivotal throughout, coupled with the expertise to identify and implement the systems to meet the required needs.

At times this work will be complex. The charity has a close relationship with Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which is one of the busiest and largest teaching NHS foundation trusts in the country, with over 16,000 staff and an annual income of over £1 billion. Excellent time management and an ability to lead a small team who can service different work streams will be critical.

The successful candidate will provide project management skills and support best practice, whilst following standards, tools and techniques individual to each project. This will involve knowledge of the relevant legislation and a familiarity with using complex database systems to produce timely and accurate project reports.

  • The post-holder will provide operational management for the data and systems services within Newcastle Hospitals Charity to support the development of the charity

Key liaison with charity financial services, and co-ordination of annual audit and accounts programme

Manage integrated operating systems for grant-making, donor/supporter relations and financial services Develop and deliver data, planning and systems objectives, managing specific change projects as required, ensuring the Charity is supporter and donor focused and meets the regulatory requirements and standards set out by the Charity Commission Develop a simple but comprehensive and visual approach to performancemanagement of the Charity, incorporating activity, performance and financial data Work as a key member of the Charity management team to identify, develop and support a programme of prospect management opportunities for fundraising growth, to drive income generation opportunities Provide hands on data intelligence expertise, including in-depth data analysis to inform strategic decision making; providing up-to-date market and benchmarking analysis, to define fundraising programmes and informing/developing business cases Develop and manage robust processes for the integrity, storage, analysis and compliance of supporter data and donation processes in accordance with the regulations and guidance of the Data Protection Act and GDPR Provide the Charity Committee and Charity Director with concise, up-to-date reports, using visual dashboard methodology Ensure the appropriate processes are applied to the development of the Charity operating systems and associated integrations

Essential

  • Degree level education or equivalent level qualification or experience in a relevant subject in an area of technical development and or data analytics
  • Postgraduate qualification, or demonstrable equivalent level of experience of working successfully at a senior level

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Strong project management skills including familiarity with Prince 2/Agile/ITIL or similar project management standards, and experience of working with SQL databases/fundraising or sales information systems at a management level knowledge of data management and analysis regulations and legislation relating to data processing
  • Experience of multi-professional and organisation wide working

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a charity and/or healthcare setting
  • Experience of preparing complex data/information for reports to Management / Executive / Board / Committee level
