Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity available within Surgical and associated services, (board 6) to join a small team within the Urology department, as a Band 7 Specialist nurse within the stone centre at Freeman hospital. This role would be suited to an experienced nurse who is looking to work independently, gaining skills as an autonomous practitioner, whilst developing their knowledge and leadership skills.
This role will be working in a small team with a wider support network from within the board. Newcastle Urology at the Freeman Hospital is the most experienced provider of lithotripsy treatment in the North East of England.
This specialist technique treats stones which have developed in the kidney and ureter and an innovative and minimally invasive technique called extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is used to treat the stones without the need for surgery. This minimally invasive treatment sees patients attend the unit, have treatment and return home on the same day.

Main duties of the job
As part of this role the successful candidate will predominantly run the service, with oversight of Matron/deputy matron, be involved in continuous service improvement and development. The post holder will be involved with co-ordination of MDT, and will be expected to be part of and attend the Theatre allocation meeting. There will be an expectation to line manage the Band 6 and Good communication skills will be essential within this role.
