Job summary

The Trust's Occupational Health Service is dedicated to the health and well-being of its employees, offering a comprehensive range of services to support staff in their work and personal health.

The Band 7 Physiotherapist will provide a high standard of physiotherapy to staff within the Occupational Health Service. The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, promoting early intervention and rehabilitation to facilitate a timely return to work or to prevent sickness absence.

In summary, the Band 7 Physiotherapy role at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Occupational Health Service will play a vital role in supporting the health and well-being of Trust staff, providing expert care and promoting a culture of health awareness and injury prevention within the workplace.

Main duties of the job

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of staff referred to the service, using clinical reasoning skills and a variety of assessment techniques.
  • Formulate and deliver individual treatment plans based on evidence-based practice, ensuring high standards of clinical care and patient safety.
  • Provide expert advice, guidance, and education to staff on the management of musculoskeletal conditions and the prevention of injury in the workplace.
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including occupational health advisors, consultants, and other allied health professionals, to coordinate and manage patient care effectively.
  • Implement return-to-work programs and adjustments, liaising with managers and HR as necessary to support staff in their work environment.
  • Evaluate patient progress, reassessing and adapting treatment plans as required to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date patient records in accordance with professional standards and Trust policies.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of health promotion initiatives within the Trust.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current best practice in physiotherapy and occupational health.
  • Provide mentorship and supervision to junior physiotherapy staff and students as required.

  • Highly specialist knowledge of medical conditions relevant to the speciality and their impact on patient's functional abilities.
  • Highly specialist knowledge of the physiotherapy process and its application with the client group in the speciality
  • Good awareness of psychosocial factors that can affect conditions and clients ability to work.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of undertaking research projects
  • Knowledge of current NHS initiatives relevant to the trust and the delivery of an Occupational Health service

SKILLS

Essential

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to pass on skills and knowledge to others both formally and informally.
  • Good organisation, time management, problem-solving and prioritisation skills

  • Experience of carrying out audit projects
  • Previous Experience in Occupational Health setting / treating Occupational Health clients
