Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, motivated and innovative Band 6 or 7 Nurse Specialist to join our kidney/bladder cancer team based at Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne. This post is to cover the maternity leave of the current post holder and we are planning to recruit at either Band 6 or Band 7 depending on experience. This is an excellent opportunity to gain insight into the role of the Nurse Specialist, whilst developing enhanced knowledge and skill sin kidney cancer care.

Freeman Hospital is a Urological Cancer Centre providing diagnostics as well as state of the art treatments including robotic surgery, radiotherapy and interventional radiological treatment. This is a very busy unit and you will play a key role in ensuring we meet NHS Cancer waiting time targets whilst maintaining the patient experience and supporting them and their families through all stages of their cancer pathway.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will who will work as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team supporting patients with a wide variety of clinical needs, ensuring consistency or care from pre diagnosis, treatment and beyond.

Working in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) the post holder will, implement patient focused care. The role is vital in delivering the highest standards of clinical care and supporting patients and their families/carers throughout all aspects of their pathways. Ensuring national cancer targets are met and identifying and concerns in achieving these targets.

Following a period of training and supervision the post holder will be responsible for independently reviewing patient pre and post treatment providing specialist intervention, care and support.

The post holder will develop strategies to ensure ongoing service development and will actively seek ways to improve patient experience.

Whilst knowledge of the care required for patients with kidney cancer would be advantageous we will be happy to consider applications from candidates who have, broader relevant urology or oncology experience.

We are particularly looking for applicants who have a desire to join our team in delivering superb care and who have the drive and enthusiasm to continue excellence in care delivery.

The successful applicant must be a Registered Nurse with extensive post registration experience within the specialist area of practice, and be educated to Degree level plus have specialist qualifications/experience within specialist area.
