Job summary

NMC Registered Children's Nurse's are employed in wards and departments at the Great North Children's Hospital, Neonates at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and Cardiothoracic at Freeman Hospital.

Currently there are vacancies across several wards and departments including Ward 1a Renal, Gastroenterology and pre/post BMT, Ward 2a Respiratory, Ward 3 Bone Marrow Transplant, Ward 4 Oncology, Paediatric Emergency Department and Assessment Unit, Ward 10 Trauma and Orthopaedics, Ward 11 Burns, Plastics and ENT, Ward 12 PICU, Neonatal Intensive Care, Ward 23 Cardiology and Cardiothoracic PICU. There is also a vacancy on Ward 14 Oncology Day Unit which is full time and Dermatology Outpatients 18 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

As a nurse in any of the wards and departments you will assess, plan and support delivery of care to ensure this is delivered to a high standard. You will work alongside a wide variety of professionals to deliver the very best family centred care.

You will receive training and ongoing support for enhanced skills from the Education Team relevant to the ward or department where you are employed. Enhanced skills may include, IV drug administration, care of gastrostomies and tracheostomies, delivery of breathing support systems like AIRVO and venepuncture and cannulation.

All new starters will have a supernumerary period and work alongside an experienced nurse. Wards and departments have individual competency frameworks to work towards.
