An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Laboratory Support Technician (Band 2) to join our team. The post will involve offering supportservices to the laboratory team at the Newcastle Fertility Centre.
The Newcastle Fertility Centre is a well-established unit offering a full range of diagnostic and assisted conception techniques including IVF, ICSI,PGD, PESA, TESE, semen & embryo cryopreservation and has active egg, embryo and sperm donation programs. The newly renovated clinicallaboratory is a state of the art facility incorporating isolator equipment to create a unique environment for gamete/embryo manipulations. We alsooperate a very active and successful research programme with on-going high profile work to further develop techniques to prevent transmission ofmitochondrial disease.

Main duties of the job
The duties of this role include:o Laboratory maintenance, stock control and cleaning.o Moving and handling of deliveries, gas cylinders and liquid nitrogen containers.o Data input and administrative support.It is important that the candidate is familiar with working within a laboratory environment and has good communication skills as they will beinvolved in cross-department working. Attention to detail and accurate recording skills are also key qualities we are looking for.

- To provide laboratory and portering support to the Newcastle Fertility Centre.
- To assist with ordering of stocks, batch control and maintenance of orderly storerooms.
- To assist with laboratory administration duties including input of quality control data and preparation of patient identification labels
- To assist with general laboratory maintenance and disinfection procedures including disinfecting and repackaging of stocks for use in the clean room facility.
- To assist with all procedures for the safe removal of clinical and domestic waste from the unit.
- To receive and distribute items from goods entrance to appropriate sites. This will include moving large sized gas cylinders and liquid nitrogen storage canisters.
