Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to work on Ward 44, RVI until 30th June 2024.

Ward 44 is a 29 bedded, busy general surgical ward, taking both elective patients and patients referred via emergency pathways. Due to surge in bed pressures, Ward 44 has been caring for mainly medical patients.

Ward 44 usually cares for a diverse case load, with patients from across several surgical specialties, including general surgery, colorectal, Upper G.I and endocrine.

The successful applicant will be required to have leadership experience and it would be desirable for the applicant to have knowledge of surgical and medical patient care due to the varying requirements of bed pressures and patient flow.

Main duties of the job

  • The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse role is to ensure environmental standards and cleanliness are maintained in line with national and Trust Standards in the Ward / Department by utilising audits tools CAT and Safety thermometer.
  • Support and contribute to the development of patient care and practice within the Directorate, contributing to Trust projects where required and ensuring provisions are made for staff to develop their knowledge and skills.
  • Ensure junior staff and students have appropriate supervision, support and are appropriately assessed.
  • To facilitate and organize the daily running of the ward liaising with the wider team of medical staff, bed manager and allied health professionals.
