Newcastle and Leeds Teaching hospitals are pleased to announce a collaborative fellowship organised by Interventional Oncology UK, funded with industry partners, rotating between the two trusts.
This is a one year post CCT fellowship rotating between The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust under the mentorship of Dr Pete Littler for the first six months, and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust under the mentorship of Professor Tze Wah for the second six months.
There will be the opportunity to learn and undertake established IO procedures including Liver ablation, Renal ablation, TACE and SIRT, with exposure to emerging techniques such as IRE and histotripsy where available. There will also be sessions to maintain basic IO and IR skills in preparation for a consultant job.

Main duties of the job
This IOUK one year, two centre, fellowship in Interventional Oncology (IO) is designed to equip a post CCT IR trainee in the latest IO techniques and give opportunity for publication/presentation of projects completed during the fellowship. Once completed the appointee should be in a position to take up a consultant post in IO with a view to develop or contribute to services in their hospital.
There will be no compulsory on-call commitment in order to make time for research commitments. As such, the fellow will be expected to produce a piece of research to be submitted to an international meeting, the research will also need to be presented at IOUK. One international meeting and attendance at IOUK will be funded.
The stated aim of the partners offering this fellowship is to expand the availability of IO procedures to patients in the United Kingdom, as such weighting will be given to applicants with a credible plan to implement their new skills to that effect after the fellowship.
For an informal discussion and further information regarding the opportunity and Directorate, please contact: Dr Peter Littler on 0191 2231120 or via email at peter.littler@nhs.net and/or Prof Tze Wah on 0113 2064504 Ext 64504 or via email at tze.wah@nhs.net.
