Job summary
A new and exciting 12 month secondment opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dedicated Nurse/ODP with experience in Anaesthetics or Intensive care to apply for and become a member of the transplant retrieval team as a Retrieval Practitioner.
This role entails being a member of the Anaesthetic / Recovery department providing 24 hour service 7 days a week whilst taking an active role with the transplant team participating on an on-call rota providing organ preservation support within the National Organ Retrieval Service (NORS) framework .
Cardiothoracic Theatres comprises of 5 Theatres and 6 Catherization Labs.
We are a busy unit carrying out a full range of Cardiac and Thoracic procedures for adults and children. Including Transplantation we offer a friendly working environment with the opportunity to develop both clinical and professional skills necessary to provide a high quality service.
The Retrieval Practitioner role is well established within Cardiothoracic Theatres.

Main duties of the job
The role encompasses the provision of care and appropriate intervention within the organ retrieval environment and the post holder will also be required to provide skilled assistance in Anaesthetic / Recovery, during Cardiac and Thoracic surgery for both adults and children.The DRP will be an integral part of the team supporting the directorate in the delivery of key performance targets particularly the quality and experience agenda and will support the teams to create an environment of continuous quality improvement and professional development ensuring that the delivery of patient care is regularly reviewed and that service developments or change are implemented when necessary. Self-motivation is essential along with a passion, drive, adaptability and resilience to cope with change within the Trust and wider NHS. Excellent communication skills are key to be able to influence and negotiate and quality and safety will be your priority.You will be expected to demonstrate skills in communication, co-ordination of care and an ability to work flexibly within a multi-disciplinary team. - Accountable for assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating high quality patient care in the Peri-operative environment.
- Provide effective support to both patient and carers throughout their care pathway.
- To abide by Trust policies and procedures.
- Provide support for and depending on experience deputise for team lead in their absence.
- Act as patient advocate in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code / Health and Care Professions Council standards of conduct, performance and ethics.
- Work collaboratively as an effective member of MDT.
